My best friend’s husband is in charge of the Brooklyn Public Library’s children’s material acquisition. He is my favorite gift giver, as we always get the most amazing books! This past year we were gifted with a ton of Jan Thomas books, mine and my daughter’s favorite has to be Rhyming Dust Bunnies.

Summary:
Ed, Ned, Ted and Bob are rhyming dust bunnies. Like their names, Ed, Ned and Ted constantly rhyme. Their buddy Bob cannot seem to get the hang of rhyming with them. While that is what readers of this book and the other bunnies think, what is really happening is that Bob is trying to warn of impending danger. Danger is in fact, in the form of a broom, coming to clean them all up. They finally listen to Bobs warnings, only to be swallowed up by a vacuum cleaner.
Evaluation:
Such an amazing book! Both as a read aloud to kids or as first reader for emerging readers. My daughter and I started reading this book as she finished preschool, and the simple bold rhyming text was a wonderful literacy tool. Also, the book is just fun. It is a pleasure to read and look at. Ms. Thomas’ bold and flat colors make the dust bunnies a joy to look at.
