Louise Loves Art

The Sally Jessie Raphael red glasses and striped french shirt had me, as soon as I saw them ion the cover of this book.  When I looked at the author photo of Kelly Light, she looked like someone that I would like to hang with, so I gave her book a whirl.

Summary:  Louise is a young artist.  She lays on the floor amidst pages and pages of her drawings trying to capture the perfect sketch of her cat.  As she draws her precoscious little brother, Art, looks on.  Louise, finally completes a masterpiece and then scours her house for the perfect place to hang it.  As she does this, her little brother tries and tries to get her attention.  In the end, Louise realizes that Art has destroyed her masterpiece, but in doing so he completed a new piece of art that was an homage to his beloved bigger sister.  The book ends with Louise hanging their joint piece on the fridge and realizing that she loves Art as much as she loves art.

Evaluation:
The  minimal use of color in this book is very reminiscent of both Eloise and Olivia.  The red, white and black color scheme is classic in children’s picture books.
